Americans come together each October to celebrate National Pharmacists Month. It’s a wonderful time to recognize the contributions that pharmacists, technicians, and pharmacy teams make to patient care and patient safety. Throughout this month, organizations will reflect upon the vital role pharmacy professionals play in helping people in our communities live healthy lives. At ChemoGLO, we take this time to recognize the amazing pharmacists who work on our team as well as those pharmacy colleagues we work with around the country.
The celebration of pharmacy professionals began 1925 with National Pharmacy Week, when messages were broadcast across the entire country to help spread awareness about pharmacists and the important role they play in our healthcare systems.
Today, the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) has expanded the celebration to an entire month dedicated to recognizing the contributions of pharmacists and their teams – those in the community, those working in research, and those working in a healthcare setting.
The American Pharmacists Association, founded in 1852, is the first-established professional society of pharmacists in the United States. The association consists of more than 62,000 practicing pharmacists, pharmaceutical scientists, student pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and others interested in the profession.
For pharmacists working in a hospital setting, there is the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), a professional organization that represents pharmacists who serve as patient care providers in hospitals, health systems, ambulatory clinics, and other healthcare settings. For over 80 years, ASHP has championed innovation in pharmacy practice, advanced education and professional development, and served as a steadfast advocate for members and patients.
Throughout the month of October, look for our social media posts (Twitter/X, Facebook, and LinkedIn) celebrating National Pharmacists Month. We are excited to celebrate the contribution of pharmacy professionals – particularly in helping to protect healthcare employees and patients from exposure to hazardous drugs due to surface contamination in the healthcare setting.
